Authenticity and flexibility in musical expression
Finding authenticity and freedom in every note
Do you want to deepen your relationship with your instrument? Do you want to discover where the uniqueness of your expression – your authenticity – lies? Are you interested in mental and physical relaxation while playing your instrument? Are you interested in how to work with stage fright, to remove physical and mental blocks? How to use your knowledge to create new techniques for the music of the 20th and 21st centuries? Or how to pass on your knowledge through non-violent communication?
You've come to the right place!
The goal of our workshops is to create a safe non-judgmental and
non-comparative environment – a safe place to discuss topics you are embarrassed or afraid to disclose to your teacher. A place for discussion and self-discovery, a space to share approaches to music preparation and performance. Recognizing the power of collaborative improvisation as a form of nonverbal communication and connection. Awareness of your creativity and the creation of an individual relaxation program depending on the musical instrument and repertoire. Connecting the mind with the body to gain musical freedom.

Our story
We have to acknowledge that we live in a time of uncertainty, chaos, and endless visual stimuli that constantly fight for our attention. Every moment we are exposed to new events and situations, and it's getting harder and harder not to get lost in it.
The subject of Authenticity and flexibility in musical expression is extremely important because it offers support in how to stay in touch with oneself, one's feelings and thoughts, and how to maintain one's uniqueness even in an environment that constantly shapes and influences us. It covers topics that are not talked about much, yet are an integral part of a musician's life, and all of which affect our musical expression: how we perceive ourselves, others, our instrument, our body, and our sound.
The course reaches deeply into interpersonal relationships - whether it's relationships between colleagues and friends, work dynamics within a team, relationships between teacher and student, or the musician and his/her musical instrument. It draws on the research of renowned psychologists and music scholars, giving it a solid theoretical foundation. However, practice is at the heart of the course and each activity has a clear meaning and order. Nevertheless, we target each learning or informational activity as if it is a game, so the workshops can be playful.
This project was created in the spring of 2023 based on two researches. One research was made by the violinist by Ludmila Waldmann Pavlová – „Relaxation techniques for violinists from the pedagogical, psychological and physiotherapeutic perspective“. The other was made by the percussionist Štěpán Hon and was called „Musician’s warm-up – a path to improve musical expressive techniques and skills through a deeper interconnection of the body-mind“. Thanks to the support of scholars and pedagogues from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague we started to lead this „unconventional“ course with the idea of helping young musicians gain more control, calm, and, above all, joy in playing and musical preparation. The subject of Authenticity and flexibility in musical expression has been born. From that moment, not only the students and we, the teachers, but the entire concept of our unorthodox course evolves.
